the forever of a moment
reminds me of the impermanence of things.
as souls cry out for remembering,
lost thoughts are swept away.
deep within this cavern
of unfulfilled longing there is a spark of realization.
a small token of what remains,
for if memory is history;
the word is than the truth.
who is to be the interpretor of these things
if all men see things in a different light?
what common denominator will transcend
the diversity of thought that defines men?
johnne donne was right, "no man is an island",
for all islands are anchored to the same sea floor.
but, some men are sattellites
that hopelessly float around the center
never fully feeling the gravity of thier individuallity.
some of us feel as if we are lost
without the guidance and comfort of others,
while other's may feel smothered
by the presence or intrusion of company.
so i ask you,
where is the comfort of civilization
when you reach the end?
is there a light to climb towards
when you are at your bottom?
the grandiose philosophy espoused
by the purveyors of optimistic destiny
have an opposite effect on me
than the one they intend.
it seems to me that they intend to ignore reality
and bend the facts
so they can fit them in a personalized factotem.
i on the other hand am too pragmatic for that,
where they see a silver lining
i see the chrome bore of a gun.
so you see the impermanance of things
is not merely fodder for our diaries.
it is the unchangeable fact,
the undeniable reality that diamonds
may last longer than sh*t,
but in the end they too are dust.
opinion may swell our chests
or deflate our egos,
that is merely perspective.
the knowledge that we are powerless,
that with or without us life goes on;
that my friend is awareness,
our ability to comprehend all of these things
is the gift of humility.
at the end all we have
is the memory of things lost,
of a life forgotten,
and that is the true nature of the impermanence of things.

"at the end all we have his memories of things lost"
the only thing guaranteed in life...
nicely done, sometimes i feel like
I am an island, but then i wake
and give thanks for another day blessed
with breath.
thanks for sharing this piece

when all men are islands
the world becomes an ocean of lonliness and despair.
that is a world unfit for beings of light.
