I decided to end the day, in an unusual way
No TV, no dinner...no music
Just me, three six packs and the night
The last "party" of this magnitude, took
place during my college days...those
moments didn't end well

As each bottle emptied itself, the hole in my heart grew larger
All I wanted was one night, free of the hurt
One evening, for the memories to catch their breath
Ever been so empty, that even an echo...has no sound?

After throwing out the last three bottles, I drifted off to sleep
I found myself standing next to my father, overlooking the
iconic scenery of the Catskill mountains
Even in my dreams, I smelt that familiar aftershave of his
He offered me wisdom, 20 years overdue...

"You've spent your whole life, trying not to be like me
I've watched you grow beyond, what I became
You're seven years older than I was, when I died
I chose comfort from a bottle, instead of Jesus' embrace

Son, you know better...you know the warmth of His arms
I never got the chance to tell you, that I knew Him too
Your great-grandfather preached God's word, and his passion
for the Lord...is the reason for your name and its meaning
For God is indeed, gracious

I'll be thanking Him for all eternity, because you'll never be like me
No matter how hard you try, to throw it all away, He won't let you
See what others see in you, and honor Him who made you that way
...I love you"

Morning came, and I wondered about the purpose of the day
In a heartbeat, I had lost my love...my rose...my best friend
From a throat dried with beer, I whispered to my Lord,
"Please...send me an angel to walk with me"

Last night, I put the bottle down

This morning, I returned...and settled in His word


Psalm 34:8 - "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed
is the man that trusteth in Him."
